Listing tiers
- Verified
- Confirmed via a verification method and date on file. LocalBusiness structured data is emitted for verified-tier listings only.
- Attributed
- Sourced from public records or the retailer's own website, but not independently verified. Renders publicly and counts toward our thin-geo bar, but carries no LocalBusiness structured data.
- Unverified
- Insufficient evidence to publish. These records do not appear anywhere on the public site.
Thin-geo indexation bar
A metro (city) page is indexed only when it has at least 3 listable (verified or attributed) retailers. Below that bar, the page still renders — a visitor who lands there deserves an answer — but it is marked noindex and excluded from our sitemaps.
Incentive source precedence
Where more than one source describes the same program, we cite the highest-precedence source: a statute or government agency page ranks above DSIRE, which ranks above any other source. Where a city and county program disagree, both are shown and both are cited.
"Verified as of" and stale data
Every incentive figure and every verified listing carries a "verified as of" date. When we cannot re-verify a figure at its scheduled review, we remove it rather than leave it published with an old date. An expired program (like the federal 25C credit) stays published and clearly marked as ended, because "did this credit end" is itself the answer readers need.
Requesting a correction
If any figure, listing, or brand association here is wrong, use our corrections form. We review every submission.
Data sources
- Retailer listings — compiled from public records and each retailer's own website, with the source URL and read date recorded per listing.
- EPA-certified models — the US Environmental Protection Agency's certified wood heater database, a public federal record.
- ZIP code locations — GeoNames postal-code data, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Used to place a search, never to place a retailer.
- Incentive programs — the administering agency or utility's own current page wherever reachable, with the verification date recorded per figure.
